12-7-2008 Israel – Beth Shan

Beth Shan was the capital city of the ten cities of the Decapolis with 40000 people.
In 2 Samuel 1 we read that Saul and his three sons were hung on the walls here after their defeat on the mountains of Gilboa. The city became a poster child in Palestine for the grandeur and power of Rome. It was a city that people came from and Jesus often went to in his ministry. (Mark 7:31, Matthew 4:25.) In a moments time in 749 the city was destroyed by an earth quake. The Romans strongest statement in the land was no match for the everlasting Kingdom the son of the carpenter – the SON OF GOD – would build. Psalm 20:7-8 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. [8] They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.
